One To One

The primary purpose of the One-to-One program is to provide positive adult role models for children at risk, using a structural mentoring program.  The Senior Partner (adult) is matched with a Junior Partner (youth) in an attempt to establish a relationship based on communication, trust and respect which works to raise the child's self esteem and outlook on life.

Partners requests that the pair spend three hours a week together for one year.  The Partners organization provides free or low cost activities twice a month, which includes skiing, hiking, rafting, picnics, swimming, holiday parties, etc.

Monthly contact is provided by case managers who aid in obtaining resources to help support the partnership.

Most of the Junior Partners are at risk youth, which falls into the category of: single parent homes, delinquency, physical abuse, neglect, substance abuse and poor role models or no role model at all.

The priorities of a Senior Partner are to guide the youth towards positive choices and provide leadership plus be available to listen, encourage and attempt to find the best in situations.

The task of a Senior Partner is not an easy one but three hours of time a week could mean a lifetime of a difference to a child in need of guidance.  It has been statistically proven that a youngster has a better chance of succeeding with a role model, be less likely to use drugs or alcohol, less likely to skip class or school and less likely to be violent or aggressive against others.

The first step in becoming a Senior Partner is basically effortless.  Simply attend a Partners sponsored orientation, which is noncommittal.  During this session, it can be determined if the program will work for you.  If you are unable to attend a scheduled orientation, please call 245-5555 and schedule an individual orientation, which will meet your itinerary.

The next step would be to fill out an application, followed by an interview, which will help establish your likes and interests.  With the information gathered, the case manager will have the tools to match an individual with a Junior Partner who has similar interests.  At the interview, you will be requested to produce a driver's license, automobile insurance, subject to a background check and screening plus release forms to review and sign.

The ultimate goal for the One-to-One program is to: Facilitate the transformation of high risk youth, into healthy young adults.

Only a professional can refer a client to Partners, which means the parent(s) are not eligible to do so.  The source of referral usually comes from a school teacher, counselor, minister or someone from within the court system.
